The danger to your dog at home
In short: slippery ground is very dangerous, especially for kids and for the elderly!
Hosszabban: Unfortunately, it has become very trendy to see "funny" videos where people are playing with the dog in the apartment, the dog would run after the ball/food/owner/friend, but unfortunately it can't, because it slips, its legs spin and in veterinary surgeries it is not uncommon to have to treat younger dogs with injuries from such accidents, which in the worst case can end with a fracture. Think about it, for them it's like walking on frozen ground with acid rain, you know the feeling?
Note: if you plant them on slippery ground, their legs will start to turn outwards like the stems of a letter V, or worse, their knees and hips will follow this turn. If you wait patiently, you'll see the front legs slip forward, their buttocks slide back and they involuntarily slide into a lying position. This sliding, leg twisting is a real risk in puppies who are still growing and suffer from long-term joint problems.
All this crawling requires constant correction and compensation, the dog cannot sit, stand or walk calmly and safely in its own space and environment, which can cause serious frustration and behavioural problems, the dog becomes mentally tired from the constant state of readiness and need for correction and compensation.
In addition to the fact that your slippery floor may even cause your dog to have a behavioural problem, you risk such excruciating injuries:
-
jerks
-
dislocations (which can end with the head of the femur being cut off in the case of hips)
-
ligament sprains, tears, strains
-
arthritic arthritis, which builds up slowly, almost imperceptibly in the dog
-
fractures
If you think that "your dog doesn't mind, your dog is fine, your dog is used to it" then I remind you that dogs are masters at hiding pain, they don't "tell" until the problem is minor, but will give you a visible signal when the problem is more serious, so it is very important to know your dog's pain signals:
-
reduced activity
-
crouching
-
loss of playfulness
-
avoids contact, touch
-
where previously he may have loved to be stroked, he now does not tolerate it
-
not enthusiastic about walking, although he loved it
-
appetite changes
-
licking of a joint (paws, fingers, carpus (wrist) are common)
-
reactive behaviour with other dogs, people
-
shyness
-
"pain face"

-
lay down mats, anti-slip mats, floor mats, at least at "tactical" points: stairs, before and after stairs, turns, parts of long corridors, to make it safer when you are running
-
do not play with it on slippery surfaces
-
do not sit him down on slippery surfaces
-
regularly groom the sole hairs, if they are long, although they are very sweet, they have a worse grip
-
use dog shoes and socks at home - this is not a gentleman's fad, it's very important, always, but for puppies it's even more important!
-
buy a bed and plate with anti-slip rubber on the bottom
